John grew up on a cattle farm in a small Kentucky town of just 600 people, where hard work, community, and craftsmanship were part of everyday life. With a father who served as the local church minister, John was raised with a strong sense of service and community. Surrounded by skilled tradespeople who generously shared their knowledge, he developed an early curiosity for how things worked and a love for building with his hands.

One of John's earliest memories dates back to when he was just 6 years old. His community had come together to build a home for a member of the local church, and John was right there alongside them, eagerly driving nails and helping wherever he could. When a friend invited him to leave the job-site to play, he turned her down—he was having far too much fun building! It's a story that followed him through high school and, still today, perfectly captures the passion that has never faded.

As he grew older, that curiosity evolved into an ongoing dedication of learning and mastering his craft. During high school, John worked for a construction company while studying drafting, architecture, and woodworking through Industrial Arts classes. He also spent countless hours learning from local craftsmen and mentors who encouraged his interests and helped develop his skills.

One of his proudest early accomplishments was a handcrafted grandfather clock he built for his mother. After she spent years asking him to make one, John took it upon himself to learn the intricate process. Three years later, during his senior year of high school, he proudly presented her with the finished clock—a testament to his patience, determination, and attention to detail.

John carried that same work ethic on into adulthood. From construction and woodworking to starting his first business at just 17 years old, John has always found fulfillment in creating, problem-solving, and a job well done.

After moving to Michigan in 2020, John founded JMC Build & Design in 2023, bringing his lifetime of hands-on experience and passion for quality craftsmanship to homeowners throughout Metro Detroit.

​

Today, John specializes in custom woodworking and finish carpentry, with a particular appreciation for the precision and detail that elevate a finished project. Whether he's creating custom woodwork or transforming a living space, he approaches every job with the same curiosity, care, and commitment to excellence that began on that first childhood job-site.

For John, quality craftsmanship goes beyond the finished product. It's about dedication to the job, respecting each customer's home, and taking personal pride in every detail.
